Client Background & Treatment Plan
My client entered this programme during a particularly demanding period of personal transition and emotional stress. After a rewarding career in the veterinary sector, she has returned to college , and she maintains an active lifestyle .
She also experiences Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during the winter months, along with recurring neck tension and periods of mental overload. She describes the ‘dark days’ when it feels like “just her and her thoughts.”
Open-minded and curious about holistic therapies, she committed to a three-week Gua Sha facial plan, receiving two treatments per week, spaced 3–4 days apart. A structured Gua Sha sequence was followed throughout, incorporating a variety of traditional tools tailored to her needs.
Gua Sha Treatments: Week-by-Week Highlights
Treatment One – 27 November 2025 (50 minutes)
Initial assessment revealed significant tenderness along both sides of the neck and around the ears. Ergonomic adjustments were discussed to reduce ongoing neck strain.
The treatment focused on gentle knuckling techniques and light-to-medium pressure to avoid irritation. Notably, the right cheek held more tension and flushed quickly, so pressure was adapted accordingly. A combination of Gua Sha tools, including spoon, wand and mushroom, was used.
Client feedback: deeply relaxing — “exactly what I needed to get out of my head.”
Treatment Two – 1 December 2025 (65 minutes)
Improved tissue response was noted, with healthy colour returning to the cheeks and neck. A “bubbly” sensation near the ears suggested lymphatic activation.
The session concluded with a 10-minute facial reflexology sequence and gentle Indian Head Massage. My client particularly enjoyed the eye work and lifting facial strokes. Despite chronic body tightness, her neck showed no sensitivity during this session.
Sleep challenges were discussed, along with simple somatic exercises to support evening relaxation.
Treatment Three – 4 December 2025 (65 minutes)
The right cheek again presented with deeper tension. Chilled Gua Sha tools were introduced during reflexology for contrast therapy, enhancing sensory awareness and calming effects.
Despite poor sleep the night before, my client reported feeling her shoulders relax within the first five minutes. During eye work, she noticed a sensation in her ankle — an experience explained through reflexology zones.
Key insight: unlike previous facials, the calm and grounded feeling from Gua Sha lasted for hours, significantly reducing pre-evening class anxiety.
Treatment Four – 8 December 2025 (65 minutes)
Marked improvements were observed: reduced neck tension, easier head movement, and softer facial tissue overall. The right cheek was noticeably less congested.
Both cheeks flushed evenly, indicating improved circulation, and smoother Gua Sha strokes were used to finish. My client described the treatment as mentally clearing — “my head empties of worries.”
Treatment Five – 12 December 2025 (70 minutes)
Amid ongoing personal stress, my client welcomed this session as time to “rest and restore,” commenting “ah, zen” upon entering the room.
The treatment space was intentionally curated with soft lighting, binaural beats, lavender aromatherapy and a heated bed to support deep relaxation. Despite recovering from a cold, my client experienced a release response during the session, followed by a sense of ease.
The reflexology and Indian Head Massage sequence was again included for nervous system regulation.
Treatment Six – 16 December 2025 (70 minutes)
The final session reflected the emotional load of the week, with increased tension on the left side of the face. By this stage, treatment flow and stroke selection were intuitive and targeted.
During work on the Head and Brain reflexology point, my client experienced a sensation of gently “falling backwards” — a common sign of deep parasympathetic relaxation.

- Assessing facial and neck tension patterns
